Toyota Wigo 2019 Research New – The clean, straightforward design of the Toyota Wigo 2019 is let down only by the turbo model’s excessive add-ons.

Toyota Wigo Overview

In this corner of the world, Toyota was a new comer when it came to the A-segment mini cars. What better way to enter the segment than to do it with the help of Daihatsu which eventually became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toyota.

Daihatsu’s Indonesian division, PT Astra Daihatsu Motor originally developed the Toyota Agya & Daihatsu Ayla twins as part of the Low Cost Green Car program in Indonesia. The mission was to make an affordable, fuel efficient, environment friendly car. The little 5-door hatchback which was renamed “Wigo” for the Philippine market was finally introduced in our market in early 2014.

The Toyota Wigo features a practical space efficient body. It rides on a long-ish 2455mm wheelbase which allows it to have roomy for its size interior space. Its short front and rear overhangs keep its exterior relatively compact. In early 2017, Toyota Motor Philippines launched an improved refreshed model.

The original Wigo’s basic front fascia has been replaced with a more stylish one. It now features a prominent trapezoidal grille and reshaped foglight housing reminiscent of the pre-facelift 86 Coupe. Its headlights which have also been reshaped are now better integrated. The G variant gains side mirror-integrated turn signals. All variants get cleaner sides, thanks to the deletion of the previous range-topping version’s side trims. At the back it has a reshaped rear bumper with faux-vents on each corner. The top of the line variant gets taillight extensions as well as a larger rear spoiler to give it a sportier look. New machine cut 14-inch alloys give it a more upmarket vibe, base variant gets older style alloys. A new sporty Orange Metallic paint color compliments the new sharper styling of the Toyota Wigo.

Inside, the higher spec G variant gets a touchscreen infotainment system and steering wheel-mounted controls. Dual-airbags and ABS are now standard across the board. The rear central passenger now gets a three point seatbelt as well as a headrest. New interior patterns on the doors and seats freshen up the cabin. Despite its size, Toyota gave its Wigo several storage areas which include front and rear door pockets with bottle holders, and seat back pockets.

For those looking for a bit more attitude, the Wigo is also available with a TRD variant which features a full TRD body kit, this includes a front lip spoiler, side skirts, and rear bumper extension with a diffuser. TRD decals and a rear chrome badge complete the transformation.

Under its short hood is a 1.0-liter 12-valve DOHC 3-cylinder gasoline mill which now features Toyota’s VVTi technology. Power gets a slight bump to 65hp and 89Nm of torque. This gives the little Toyota Wigo better acceleration and improved fuel economy. Like before it can be had with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Suspension remains the same with MacPherson struts in front and a compact twist beam at the back. Based on our review, minor suspension refinements as well as better Bridgestone OEM tires give it better handling than earlier models.

The best value in Toyota Wigo 2019 is a base model with manual gearbox, but it’s still decently priced after adding fancy audio, leather, and a moonroof.
